"Lights out; I'm going flat"
"1800 boxes!"
"Sweeter than expected"
"Tell me all about Bavaria"
This portrayal of Willy Wanka will rot your teeth. Wonka's character in past adaptations had been a little bit evil, manipulative, and funny, TC's portrayal is a flat character with no real personality traits beyond blind hope and idiocy. Some of the wonder of Dahl's books is that magic exists in spite of reality to make the mundane wonderful. In Wonka, the magic is forcefeed down your throat and what should be fantastical feels mundane by the end of the movie. Songs aren't that good, characters are one noted with no growth. Doesn't feel like a prequel to Dahl's story.
